Baseball as Metaphor
Meteors of metaphors,
numbed into dumb endings
To take the mind eye's
off, off and away
with muscle memory
endings, peacefully,
in the house built
by Babe Ruth,
eternal Ubermensch,
where money, insurance,
and time are no more
than beer battered bouts ...
But alas ... the spring clean
cleats come around
from down south
when hitters aren't getting
what I'm shouting about ...
~ Douglas McDaniel,
Somewhere on the Road
Between Here and There
